Senior Policy Analyst Jonathan Kaplan discussed a Budget Center analysis — California’s Support for K-12 Education Ranks Low by Almost Any Measure — that examines how California’s K-12 education spending compares to that in other states.

A key part of this analysis involved adjusting the most recent K-12 spending figures to account for differences in states’ costs of living. Kaplan discussed how California compares based on this latest information and other measures of investment in K-12 schools. He also touched on how voter approval of Proposition 30 in 2012 has boosted California school spending and will look at the implications of this new report for future deliberations around increasing state revenues and, in turn, providing additional support for K-12 education.
