SACRAMENTO — The California Budget & Policy Center is pleased to announce Cathy Cha, Crystal Crawford, and Michael Tubbs have been elected to join its board of directors.
Chris Hoene, executive director for the Budget Center, issued the following statement: “On behalf of the organization’s staff, board, and supporters, I am extremely proud to welcome Cathy Cha, Crystal Crawford, and Michael Tubbs to the Budget Center’s board of directors. They each bring a breadth of experience, leadership, and passion to the fight for economic equality and racial equity in California and across the nation.”
Jennifer Ito, chair of the Budget Center board of directors added: “Cathy, Crystal, and Michael add to the diverse experiences, voices, and leadership of the Budget Center and our state as we move forward during this crucial opportunity to build a more resilient and equitable California. As colleagues on the board, they will undoubtedly help shape the Budget Center’s growth, and work alongside us and our mission to improve the lives of Californians.”
Cathy Cha is president & CEO of the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. Under her leadership, the Fund is exploring new and innovative approaches to advancing equality and justice so every person has opportunities to thrive and to live life with dignity and hope. Cathy’s path-breaking approach to collaboration among funders, movements, nonprofits, and government has helped spark wide-ranging social impact, including California’s rise to the top among states in advancing pro-immigrant policies.
Crystal D. Crawford serves as Executive Director for Western Center Law & Poverty. Prior to her work with Western Center, Crystal was a program director at The California Wellness Foundation, where she developed and led the organization’s groundbreaking Women’s Initiatives, a multi-million dollar program that amplifies the voices of women of color and provides philanthropy and policymakers with a vision for how to advance the health and economic security of women of color.
Michael Tubbs served as the Mayor of the City of Stockton, California, becoming both Stockton’s youngest mayor and the city’s first African-American mayor, as well as the youngest mayor in the history of the country representing a city with a population of over 100,000 residents. With an innovative public-private partnership supported by a $1,000,000 grant, Mayor Tubbs launched the nation’s first ever municipal-level basic income pilot and later founded Mayors for Guaranteed Income. He currently serves as Special Advisor for Economic Mobility and Opportunity for Governor Newsom.
Together, they join Veronica Carrizales, Natalie Foster, Tim Gage, Shimica Gaskins, Emily Gordon, Tracy Gordon, Alma Hernández, Ruth Holton-Hodson, Hilary Hoynes, Jennifer Ito, John Kim, Jed Kolko, Frank J. Mecca, and Anthony E. Wright on the Budget Center’s board of directors.
